A Cracking Opening for Hub West

24 April 2017

Clanmil Housing tenants from all over west Belfast descended on Caffrey Hill on Friday for an Easter themed family fun day to mark the official opening of Hub West, Clanmil’s new community space.

Hub West is a brand new venue for community activities and over 100 young people and their parents came together to celebrate its official opening with a fun filled afternoon, which included an Easter egg hunt, games and a colouring competition.

Briana Rice and Stephen Miskimmin, join Clanmil’s Director of Assets and the Easter Bunny and officially declare Hub West open!

The winners of the colouring competition, Brianna Rice (aged 8) and Stephen Miskimmin (aged 5) cut the ribbon to officially declare Hub West open helped by Clanmil Group Director of Assets Tony Giffin and the Easter Bunny!

A number of Clanmil staff are now based at the Hub and a range of community activities are already being provided at the new facility including employability training sessions and art and craft classes.  These sessions are proving popular with residents and Clanmil is working with tenants to develop a programme of community activities to be based in the new facility.

The family fun day provided an opportunity for all of Clanmil’s west Belfast residents to visit the new space and find out more about what’s on offer, putting it on the map as a place where everyone is always welcome.

Philip Whyte, Clanmil’s Community Cohesion Officer said:

“It was great to see such a fantastic turn out.  Thanks to everyone who came along to help celebrate the official launch of Hub West.  It was a smashing way to kick off all that is to come as the Hub continues to grow within the local community. It was also a great way for residents to get to know each other better.

“We’re really grateful to those tenants who’ve helped get the Hub off the ground.  We appreciate their enthusiasm and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with our tenants and others within the community to ensure that Hub West develops into a vibrant, welcoming place with something to attract everyone to come along and get involved.  It’s a great resource for the community and we’re very excited about the opportunities it will create.”

A weekly Parent and Toddlers session runs at the Hub on Fridays from 10 am to 12 noon and everyone from the local community is welcome to attend.
