What our tenants say

Tenant Forum

Tenant Forum

Tenant Participation in Clanmil Housing

At Clanmil we believe that it is important to involve tenants in the services provided. To enable us to achieve this we promote tenant involvement through the following mechanisms:

The Clanmil Chronicle
The Clanmil Chronicle is issued three times a year. We welcome suggestions from tenants and staff for items they would like to see included with the Chronicle and we also welcome editorial contribution from tenants. Anyone who would like to know more about the Chronicle should contact head office. View current edition.

Letters and Meetings
If we are proposing any changes to a tenants home or the housing scheme, including the services we provide, we undertake to provide tenants with the relevant information and consult them or their tenant representatives as appropriate.

Tenant Associations and House Committees
Each housing scheme is encouraged to set up a tenants association and a committee to address issues that affect the housing scheme. We now have 15 tenants associations or House Committees in our sheltered housing schemes. The tenants associations sign up to a Constitution that is available through the staff at Northern Whig House. If anyone would like further information about the role of tenants association please contact us.

The Tenant Forum
In January 2000 Clanmil established the Tenant Forum. The purpose of the Forum is to review policies and performance of the Association on matters that may affect all of Clanmil tenants. The Tenants Associations and House Committees are encouraged to nominate two representatives to attend the Forum which meets approximately four times each year. Even if a housing scheme does not have a Tenants Association, the Association encourages tenants in any scheme to send a representative to the Forum. Tenant Forum members are required to sign up to the Terms of Reference and a copy is available from Northern Whig House. Further details on the Tenant Forum can be obtained by contacting us.

NEW NEIGHBOURHOODS TENANT FORUM
Currently the members of the Tenant Forum are almost all from our older people Independent Living schemes and the issues addressed have, therefore, focused primarily on services to that sector.

We are now establishing a Neighbourhoods Tenant Forum for our family estates and apartment developments and are calling for new tenant members.

The purpose of the new Neighbourhoods Forum is to help us in our focus on providing good neighbourhoods, to review policy and performance that affects this group of tenants and to give us feedback on what we can do to improve our services.

The Forum will meet four times each year and locations and times will be arranged to suit members. Once the new Forum is established, we hope to appoint a member to the Clanmil Board of Management.

Please get in touch with your Housing Officer or Nuala McGonnigle Mackie on 028 90876000 for further information on how to join along with a copy of the rules for the Forum and the Code of Conduct for members.

Membership of The Tenant Forum
The Chair of the Tenant Forum is Des Long. Des is a representative from Giboney Court independent living scheme in Cookstown. Des was also elected by the Forum to be the tenant representative on the Association’s Board of Management. The Forum is also attended by the Chair and Vice Chair of Clanmil, Chief Executive, Director of Housing, Housing Officer and a representative Scheme Coordinator. Other staff attend the Forum meetings as required.

The minutes of the Tenant Forum are available to tenants. If anyone would like to receive minutes of these meetings when they are approved then please contact Northern Whig House. The Forum Minutes are also displayed on the Notice Board in the sheltered housing schemes.
