Local Circus troupe take to their bikes and entertain elderly people in Belfast in lockdown

12 August 2020

Belfast's famous revolutionary circus company Tumble Circus have been cycling the length and breadth of Belfast bringing their high skills and laugh out loud comedy circus to Clanmil Housing Association's supported housing schemes for people living with dementia.

After easing of restrictions, Tumble Circus are out and about volunteering their time and circus skill to bring smiles to the elderly people. Beginning their day at Cullingtree Meadows in West Belfast, moving to Mullen Mews in East Belfast, then finishing at Sydenham Court in South Belfast.

Arriving on bikes, the seven local circus artists, including 6 year old Kasper dismounted in the private car parks of the housing schemes Abiding by social distancing restrictions, residents and carers watched the team of artists perform wonderful circus stunts including acrobatics, juggling, stunt bike and clowning outside the scheme. Each show lasted 30 minutes and once finished, the highly energetic and low carbon team mount their bikes and move onto the next outdoor venue.

Tumble Circus have had more enquires for this unique show and hope that it will provide work for local circus artists.

Ken Fanning Artistic Director of Tumble Circus, said; 'We were so happy to get off our sofa and bring some joy and laughter to people during these challenging times'

Brendan Morrissey, Supported Living Housing Manager at Clanmil, said;

'It's fantastic to have such talent come to our tenants' doorsteps. The mix of comedy and circus skills that the performers showcased provided great entertainments and some light relief for people living at these schemes, especially for those who are still isolating or not going out as much as they would like. Thank you to Tumble Circus for bringing joy and laughter at this strange time.'
